I forever asked the same questions to the Microsquish evangelists we had at
work. NT does some funky stuff with memory allocations. Sometimes I'd see
18MB of available RAM, other times 11MB. The times I'd have 11MB and run
LW, it'd hit the swap when rendering. With the same scene, if I had 18MB
prior to running LW, it wouldn't it the swap when rendering. When I told
them that LW and Modeler both are one executable rather than one small
executable and a boat load of DLLs, they blamed it on that.
I'd be great if we could configure some things OUT of NT (ie: C2 level file
security, OS/2 1.x compatibility, WOW, ect) via a control panel applet.
Perhaps it'd take far less away from us. :)
Gee! How is it that the Amiga's OS left us with so much more memory and
performed so well under far slower CPUs? :)
